BMW bets on diesel and petrol – promises a new V8 engine

BMW – unlike many of its competitors – will not set a date for the phasing out of the internal combustion engine.

Although engine production is over in Germany – at least for BMW – it is not over with the internal combustion engine.

Not for BMW either. In fact, the Germans are now betting further on both the diesel and petrol engines. And even some brand new ones.

This is written by the German Handelsblatt .

Both the petrol and diesel engines get different sizes – also when it comes to the number of cylinders – in order to fit into new cars on several platforms at once.

BMW says that in future there will be four, six and eight cylinders on the menu. Or rather in the model program. However, BMW fans must expect the brand to power the various engines.

For example, we already know that the upcoming BMW M5, which after several years of absence returns in station wagon format (or touring, as the Germans say, ed.), will have a hybrid-powered V8 engine.

Presumably similar to the one already in the SUV XM. And yes, BMW has had to ask Citroën for permission to use the name. Read more about it here .

But that – i.e. the engine choice – is not necessarily a bad thing. Because it just means that the M5 gets a lot more muscle than such a person has had before.

The upcoming M5 is still roaming around under camouflage, but when the brand from Bavaria tears it off in front of the world press, it is expected to reveal a car with at least 748 horsepower. At least that's what the XM has to offer.

Like BMW, Toyota is also not much for dropping the internal combustion engine. In fact, Gill Pratt, head of the Japanese development department, does not believe that there are enough raw materials to build exclusively electric cars. Read more about it here .
