Cadillac also regrets – will not only build electric cars in 2030

American Cadillac has long said that it will only build electric cars in 2030. That is no longer the case, says director John Roth.

The vice director of Cadillac Global is John Roth.

And he now says that the car brand will no longer only build electric cars by 2030 at the latest. Even after that, the brand will continue to have cars with internal combustion engines on the program.

And these are brand new tones from the GM brand. Cadillac has said for many years that it wants to throw out petrol and diesel cars completely by 2030 at the latest.

– We will be completely honest. Electric cars and the internal combustion engine will co-exist side by side for many years.

– We want to ensure that we have the freedom to choose on the market. For both (technologists, ed.) it will be possible to meet the customers' needs.

In the past, GM people higher up in the system have otherwise been very adamant about saying goodbye to everything with a combustion engine by 2030 at the latest.

As late as 2021, Cadillac's vice president in the United States Rory Harvey then also said that the brand would sell nothing but electric cars in 2030.

When asked why Cadillac is now changing course, John Roth says that it is about listening to the customers.

– We always listen to the customers.

– We stick to the strategy of a complete model program of electric cars by the end of this decade. But we will listen to the customers and let them guide us. That is our answer, says John Roth in a comment to the Detroit Free Press .

Cadillac isn't the only car brand that has changed its mind when it comes to electric cars. In fact, the car manufacturers are almost in a cow to withdraw the steely opinion of earlier times about the car market.

For example, Mercedes has recently admitted that you can no longer say anything about when the electric car may overtake the combustion engine. Read more about it here.
