Danish parking company will be fined DKK 1.5 million

EasyPark has not been good enough to inform its customers about a fee of 15 percent of the parking price. Therefore, they must now serve a fine.

The parking company EasyPark has been put in place by the Court in Lyngby.

The company has not been good enough to state that a fee of 15 percent of the parking price is charged every time a motorist uses EasyPark's app to pay for parking in particular.

Therefore, the company must now pay a fine of one and a half million kroner. This is what the Lyngby District Court writes on its website .

It was at the request of the Consumer Ombudsman that a charge was brought first since an indictment against the parking company. And the prosecution's claim about the illegal business methods lasted throughout the trial.

However, the court rejected the prosecution's opinion that, since 2019, EasyPark has not sufficiently drawn attention to the danger of choosing an incorrect parking area via the app. The court in Lyngby believed that it was an outdated relationship.

– The court did not find that there could be a requirement for information about the fee on signage or on the website, since marketing here could only be done for downloads of the app.

– But the fee should have been better disclosed in connection with downloads and when using the app.

The rules that EasyPark is now convicted of violating were tightened in 2022. But because the case concerns conditions that are older than that, the Court in Lyngby has chosen to punish the company according to the old rules.
