Since the 1960s, there have been short American cars around Sveavägen in Stockholm during the summer. A ban on traffic stops the tradition.
A Swedish tradition is dead. In fact, it has been banned.
A political majority led by the party 'De Gronne' has banned car traffic just where the great Americans cruise past. According to the party, the ban is based on cars driving too fast, making noise and playing loud music.
The party writes this in a press release .
– We work closely with the police to deal with the mess on Sveavägen. From the city's side, we have, among other things, lowered speed limits, introduced stopping bans, built speed bumps and adjusted light regulation.

– Hopefully car-free weekends can become another tool in the arsenal, says the party's Lars Strömgren, who is traffic councilor in Stockholm municipality.
However, not all politicians are equally enthusiastic about the ban. One of them is Dennis Wedin from the Moderates.
In an interview with Lokalavisen Mitt i, he says that Stockholm is only introducing the ban to inconvenience motorists, and that it will affect general traffic in the city. It is no gain for the environment, he says.
However, that is not all that goes against the motorists. But we actually have to go all the way to the other side of the Atlantic to find some tailwind for the people behind the wheel.
