Got 17 speeding booths – three rally choirs lose their choir card

One short 95 km/ten hour in a 50 zone, and like the other two, lost the correcion card in connection with the 2024 edition of the WRC race Swedish Rally.

It went fast – and in several cases too fast – when the World Rally Championship WRC came to Sweden in February.

According to Folkebladet, several citizens who live near the planned rally route called the police to complain. Exactly because the card was way too strong.

And the citizens were right. Because when the police showed up with laser equipment, several of the rally participants drove so hard in their private cars that they lost their driver's license. A total of 17 speed booths were distributed to the participants in the race.

The three biggest speed offenders were caught with respectively 95 km/h in a 50 zone, 71 km/h in a 40 zone and 51 km/h in a 30 zone.

Was worth more than Volkswagen – now the car brand is threatened with bankruptcy

All three subsequently had to hand in their choir cards to the police. This is confirmed by traffic police officer Johan Löfstedt to Folkbladet .

– Many may think that we let them (the choirs, ed.) off the hook. But they must follow the same rules as other road users, says Johan Löfstedt.

The rally choirs got a bit of special treatment, however. The police waited for 48 hours to withdraw the choir cards. This meant that there was just time to run the competition.

The identities of the three rally choirs have not been made public. But if it concerns foreign citizens, it is not certain that the punishment in Sweden means anything at all, admits the police officer.

– It does not need to be serious offenses according to other countries' traffic rules. When the Transport Agency sends the physical correcard to the driver's home country, that person can actually do what he wants on the roads, says Johan Löfstedt.

It is not the first time that law enforcement intervenes in a rally to catch a motorist who is driving around on the wrong side of the traffic law.

Last October, a world champion was kicked out of a lob in Finland due to cheating with some license plates. Read more about it here .
