Even small damages are more expensive than electric cars' electricity consumption

Electric cars have fallen in price in recent years. But this does not necessarily apply to the parts for them. Advanced technology makes minor damage more expensive than the annual electricity consumption, new figures show.

There are several reasons why many Danes have replaced their petrol or diesel car with an electric car in recent years.

This is what Autoparts24 writes in a press release .

But even though there is money to save, because the registration fee is in many cases NOK 0, and electricity is often cheap, many electric cars are also so advanced that even minor damage can mean sky-high bills.

At the same time, analyzes indicate that electric cars are more often exposed to damage. Therefore, the repair costs are something electric car owners must be aware of, says Troels Meier, director of Autoparts24.

– It is very positive that so many Danes choose to go for it, but it is my impression that some are surprised by how much even small parts such as a light or a bumper can cost to change. But it's something you have to keep an eye on, he says.

When so many new electric cars hit the roads, it also gives the owners of electric cars the opportunity to reduce the prices of repairs significantly.

However, the increased number of electric cars on the road also means that the parts for them will become cheaper. It all happens in step with development. Although there are many parts for electric cars that are really expensive.

For example, the factory-new headlight for an Audi Q4 e-tron costs a whopping DKK 22,500. If you can live with a used one, according to the spare parts portal, it can be obtained for just around DKK 10,000.

A rear bumper for a Tesla costs a little over DKK 6,000 from the factory, but if it is used, the price can drop to just over DKK 3,000.

It is not only the spare parts industry that says that parts for electric cars – both new and used – are lobbing up. A new Danish survey from the insurance industry backs up those figures.

New figures from F&P – the insurance and pension industry – show that the bill for repairs is up to 30 percent higher for electric cars than for equivalent petrol and diesel cars. Read more about it here .
