Perhaps the last 'new' Skyline GT-R in the world has an awfully few kilometers on it

Judging by the mileage, you'd think this Skyline GT-R has been sitting still since it rolled off the assembly line almost 30 years ago.

If you are a Nissan Skyline fan, there is certainly something to look forward to in a little over a month's time. A 27-year-old R33 GTR is to be auctioned in California. But judging by the odometer, the car might as well be new. Since it rolled off the assembly line in Japan in 1995, the Midnight Purple-lacquered Japanese only has a short 1,590. This corresponds to just 58 kilometers per year ever since. And due to the fact alone that the first owner has been able to look after – and stash it away to such an extent – the car, the GT-R is expected to bring in a small fortune. The story goes that the car entered a private collection in Hong Kong and that it was only recently imported to the United States. But neither in Hong Kong nor the United States has the older Japanese been changed. That means the horsepower still comes from a 2.6-liter inline-six. It Nissan in its time called the RB26DETT engine. By the way, there are 'only' 280 horsepower. So officially… The color is perhaps the most important thing. The five-speed manual gearbox is not messed with either. But what might actually make this car an object of interest to collectors is the colour. Very few Skylines were painted in the color Midnight Purple during the model's lifetime. But this is one of the few. Together with the sister color Midnight Purple II and the lighter Millenium Jade, the color forms the trio of the most sought-after Skyline colors in history. However, the story of the car also includes the fact that the R33 is the least attractive Skyline model of them all. It can help to impose a completely natural law on the price. On the other hand, the prices of the old performance models from Nissan have recently exploded. They are now at an unprecedentedly high level. Perhaps because the models are eventually legal in the United States. Because the cars were never sold new in the US, American Skyline fans have to wait for each individual model to turn 25 years old. Because the cars are not legal to import.
