Royal Ford Escort RS Turbo is looking for a new owner

Who would have thought that? So the Princess of Wales got into cars? But of course, in 1985 Diana drove a Ford Escort… that is, an RS Turbo.

In its time, Ford built 5,000 copies of the Escort RS Turbo. That is, for the British market. One of them was and is a little more special than the others. Because it was ordered by Princess Diana in 1985. She is no longer, but the car is. And later this month you can become its new owner when Silverstone Auctions swings the hammer on the car. What immediately makes Diana's RSs special is the paintwork. All RS Turbos were delivered in a shade of white. But the princess's car was black. Which it is today. It is speculated that it was to give the much-publicized woman just a bit of privacy. Diana's RSs, for example, were also delivered with a standard Escort grille. The other changes to the car are mostly for safety reasons. Not the first royal Ford Among other things, the Escort was equipped with an extra rear-view mirror. It was for the bodyguard. In 1988, Ford got the car back, and from there it was sold to a collector. For the last 14 years it has been with another collector – a Ford enthusiast who, in addition to the royal Escort, also has other sporty models from the brand teams. But now the car must find a new owner. Incidentally, it is not the first time that a car – which Princess Diana has a card – has to find a new owner. Last year, the Escort, which she received as a birthday present from Prince Charles in 1981, was put up for sale. However, it was not an RS model. We won't find out what the car will cost until later this month. But if it stays in England, it will keep its sight until April next year.
