TEST: Nissan 350Z – fun coring machine at bargain price

There aren't many Nissan 350Zs in Denmark, and that's a shame. As a used one, it offers a lot of choral enjoyment at really sharp prices.

If you don't care about rear seats and practicality and just want a fun car with lots of horsepower, then there's no way around the Nissan 350Z. The sports car from Japan appeared in 2003 with a cheeky design and a 280-horsepower V6 engine under the hood. In large parts of the world it immediately became a cult. In Denmark, it was half as expensive with a price that ended up around DKK 800,000, so here there was not exactly a rift about the cars, writes Bil Magasinet . Still available for around DKK 200,000. Today, however, the prices of the few examples that exist in Denmark have fallen to a tolerable level, and it is even possible that you can make an even cheaper deal if you are ready to import a copy from abroad. It's available with an automatic transmission, but if you want the unfiltered driving experience, find a 350Z with a manual transmission. It's going to be a lot of fun here, and it's also a car that will lend itself well to a track day every now and then. There are a few things to look into before embarking on a Nissan 350Z utility adventure, but basically, it's extremely durable and well-built. You may be lucky to find a copy for under DKK 200,000, and at that price it is a very good buy. Otherwise, the prices are between DKK 200,000 and 250,000, depending on how far they have cards.

Be aware:

Engine : When the 350Z arrived in 2003, it had a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 280 hp. In the first two years of production, there were several engines that suffered from excessive oil consumption. Several lost the problem under warranty. If you are looking at an early car, check if it has been done. In 2006, it received a facelift, where the output increased to 301 hp. The engine requires service every 15,000 km. A small service costs around DKK 3,000, while a large one costs approx. DKK 4,500, which is extremely reasonable. A clutch typically lasts 60,000 km depending on the clutch style. It costs approx. DKK 10,000 for a replacement. Undercarriage : Watch out for specimens with lowered threaded undercarriages, which is a clear sign that it has been short hard. The brakes from Italian Brembo cost a lot when they need to be replaced. Count on around DKK 10,000 for discs and blocks if you get them yourself on e.g. eBay, and then there will be wages on top of that. Listen for "click" or "clunk" sounds from the rear tire. This may indicate that the drive shaft joints are finished, and they can cost up to DKK 9,000 to change. Body : Check especially the undercarriage and all edges for rust.
