Revealed – here every other camera trap does not work at all

It sounds like wishful thinking to most drivers. But it is actually good enough. Up to half of all speed cameras are switched off, the company reveals.

The English company Road Angel, which i.a. makes a living selling traffic alerts to motorists in England and Wales, has made a rather wild discovery. Up to half of all speed cameras, which are otherwise set up to keep an eye on motorists' speed, are either not set or technically out of order. The picture is the same in both England and Wales. This is written by the English newspaper The Sun. Road Angel has asked police forces in England and Wales how many of their speed cameras are flashing motorists. READ ALSO: FDM supports proposal: "Motorists must be forced to pay more for diesel" Of the 13 districts that responded, six districts had switched off more than half of their speed cameras. In total, 46 per cent of speed cameras in England and Wales have been switched off. In raw numbers, this corresponds to 496 speed cameras being disabled or not activated at all by the police. In the same survey, only two police districts answered that they had chosen to turn on all speed cameras. And in the county of Derbyshire it is the worst. Here, only 20 out of a total of 113 speed cameras are switched on. On the other hand, drivers do not face such conditions here at home. The fixed speed traps, the so-called starling boxes, flash around the dog if they are passed by motorists with slightly too heavy right feet. There are a total of starling boxes on 11 stretches of road in Denmark. However, they are no more secret than the fact that the Road Directorate openly shares the location of the speed cameras.
