Toyota recalls 211,000 cars with dangerous rear doors

Toyota is now recalling 211,000 copies of the Prius model because the rear doors of the cars can open during traffic. In the meantime, owners are advised to turn on automatic door locks.

Toyota is now recalling 211,000 Prius models from 2023 and 2024. The cars have been sold by Toyota both at home, in the rest of Europe, the USA, Japan and in Asia.

The problem is the locking mechanism in the rear door of the cars. It is not good enough. So on cars manufactured between November 2022 and April 2024.

In any case, Toyota states this week that water can enter the electronically controlled unit. In the worst case, this can mean that a short circuit unexpectedly lets the doors open while the individual cars are up to speed.

Reuters writes this this week.

Toyota has not yet said exactly how to solve the problem. But the factory temporarily advises Prius owners not to switch off the automatic door lock, which is activated when the cars start to rev.

If there are cars in Denmark that are covered by the recall, the owners must wait for a letter from the Motor Authority. In such cases, Toyota – and for that matter all other car brands – must never contact the car owners directly.
