Stricter penalties for Swedish drivers also affect the Danes

After a chaotic winter with motorists who have skated around on the roads, Sweden's government wants to crack down on driving around on the wrong tires.

Sweden's infrastructure minister Andreas Carlsson is now turning up the heat on the country's motorists and everyone else driving around Sweden.

After a winter of chaos on the roads, the government thinks that far too many drivers are driving around for far too long with the wrong tires on their cars.

The minister told this in a press conference recently.

Specifically, the Swedish government wants to extend the period during which cars in Sweden must have winter tires.

Today, from April 15, you can switch to summer tires in Sweden, if the weather conditions permit. However, the period with winter tires must be extended by two weeks, Andreas Carlsson believes.

– We have given the Transport Agency the task of investigating studded tyres, the starting point is to give motorists two weeks more time to change tyres. We will not force premature changes,

– We will go through the stalls, which are relatively low. The stalls become more noticeable if you drive on summer tires or bad tires, says the minister.

Today, it costs 1,000 Swedish kroner, equivalent to 641 Danish kroner, to be taken in a car with summer tires on during the winter period.

However, it is not only the Swedes who crack down harder on motorists. Since 2023, it has cost Norwegians 10,000 kroner (6,400 Danish kroner, ed.) to be caught with a hand-held phone behind the wheel.

And if we have to change the winter tires one more time, this kind of thing actually cost a Dane the starter this winter. Read more about it here .
