Jysk motorway is at the top of the dangerous list

The arrival of spring creates a rush at the Danish recycling stations. But it also causes some drivers to create dangerous situations on the motorways.

Spring cleaning can take place inside more than the four walls of the home. This often also happens in the garden when the first garden furniture is pulled out.

But what few motorists probably think about is that they can create dangerous situations when they have to get rid of winter waste.

Waste and other dangerous goods end up thousands of times as lost items on Danish roads. And it's not just annoying. This can lead to serious accidents.

This is shown by a new settlement that the insurance company Gjensidige has obtained from the Road Directorate.

In the course of 2023 alone, the Directorate of Roads had to move out a total of 4,183 times with employees and cordons because there were lost goods all around the roads.

Goods which were assessed to be so much in the way that they would pose a danger to traffic if they were not removed immediately. It was worst on the East Jutland Motorway.

Here, the Norwegian Roads Administration removed goods from the road 465 times in the course of 2023, which were assessed as dangerous for traffic. And the figures cause concern for claims director at Gjensidige, Lene Rasmussen.

– Even small things on the motorway can cause drivers to dodge or brake so hard that collisions occur, and therefore you also have to secure your things, even if it is small things such as buckets and tools, she says.

Lost goods are not just dangerous either. When the police see such incidents, stalls waver. And in particularly serious cases, a conditional suspension of the choir card may be considered.

Motorists who see lost goods on a state road and do not have the opportunity to remove it themselves must contact the Road Directorate's Traffic Center on phone 80 20 20 60.

This is where the most dangerous goods were lying on the roads in 2023 – the figures are the number of times lost goods were removed.

1. East Jutland Motorway, 465

2. Fynske Motorvej, 384

3. Sonderjyske Motorvej, 307

4. Nordjyske Motorvej, 284

5. Sydmotorvejen, 263

6. Holbæk motorway, 255

7. Herning motorway, 211

8. Engine ring 3, 176

9. Silkeborg motorway, 160

10. Koge Bugt Motorvejen, 159
