New road will make it difficult to drive a car – "It's about road safety"

The type of road as such is not new, but now it is being built in a new place. In Hillerod municipality, they believe it is about road safety.

It is more difficult to travel on the so-called 2 minus 1 roads. Nevertheless, a new one is now being built. It happens in Hillerod municipality on Borupvej. In a press release, Dan Riise (V), who is chairman of the municipality's Architecture, Town Planning and Traffic Committee, claims that it will create better conditions for both cyclists and motorists on the stretch. Specifically, there is only one lane for motorists on a 2 minus 1 road. Even though the traffic is going in both directions. In order to pass each other, motorists must cross the road – that is, cross the cycle path. For the same reason, this type of road is usually only built on sections with limited traffic and where the speed is not higher than 30 to 60 km/h. Something else that FDM also considers that Danish drivers are bad at is license plate recognition. As many as 3 out of 4 Danes in cars, for example, cannot tell the difference between an otherwise very common sign. Read more here . Back in Hillerod, the municipality expects the new 2 minus 1 road to be completely finished by September. About a 2 minus 1 road On a 2 minus 1 road, broad dotted lines divide the road into one lane and two fairly wide side areas. It is intended that motorists must overtake in the lane between the lines and only overtake on the side areas when two oncoming cars must pass each other. This allows cyclists to cycle on the side areas in relative peace from car traffic. Source: Hillerod Municipality
