Kia is now paying dealers to get rid of electric cars

In an attempt to get rid of the EV6 electric car, Kia in the US is now paying its dealer network to take the cars.

Kia in the US wants to get rid of copies of the electric car EV6 so badly that the North American importer is now paying the dealers to sell the cars from last year's production.

There is 1,000 dollars corresponding to 7,000 kroner to the dealers per EV6 from 2023, which will be brought into the exhibitions around the country.

On top of that, Kia in the US will pay the dealers 1,500 dollars, equivalent to 10,500 kroner, for each and every EV6 GT, which they – i.e. the car dealers – can sell on.

That's what CarsDirect writes.

Kia will pay a little less to get rid of new copies of both EV6 and EV9. Here there is 500 dollars to collect per car.

The same media points out that it is not necessarily a 'discount scheme', drivers in the USA will see something else.

At least it's not something the American importer talks about publicly. Nevertheless, throughout the month of April, Kia dealers now have even more reasons to show their customers one or more electric cars.

Kia isn't the first car brand to pay dealers to get rid of cars that pile up. So did General Motors last year.

– Every car we can move is one less car to think about and find space for in the disrupted supply chain we're currently battling, a vice president of Chevrolet, which is also part of General Motors, told Automotive News back in August.

In general, however, the electric cars have been the most difficult to sell without any kind of discounts. Either directly from the car factories themselves or on the registration fee.

However, a brand like Volkswagen has had enough of lowering the price to lure customers over to electric cars. This despite the fact that Germany's government suspended all support for electric passenger cars last December. Read more about it here .
