Legendary car boss is dead – was only 65 years old

Paolo Pininfarina, who has been at the head of the Pininfarina Group as chairman since 2009, has passed away. He just turned 65 years old.

The world has lost another important figure in the automotive industry.

Paolo Pininfarina, who has been at the head of the Pininfarina Group since 2009, has passed away. He just turned 65 years old. He leaves behind a wife and five children.

This is stated by the famous design company on its website .

It was Paolo's grandfather Battista Farina, who founded the Italian design house way back in 1930. Since then it has turned into several beautiful cars. Among other things, a string of pearls of Ferrari's most iconic street cars.

The grandson was educated as a civil engineer at the University of Turin. And before he settled into the family business in 1982, he worked for Cadillac, Honda and General Motors.

Since 2015, the Italian design house has been owned by the Indian car manufacturer Mahindra. Indians are also the ones in control of Automobili Pininfarina GmbH, which builds the Battista supercar.

Paolo Pininfarina is not the only great figure the automotive world has lost very recently. Marcello Gandini, the man behind the Lamborghini Miura, died on March 13 at the age of 85.

However, the Gandini leaves much more to be desired than the Miura. He was also the man behind the first BMW 5 Series, Renault 5 Turbo and Citroën BX.

Gandini, who, like Paolo Pininfarina, was born in Turin, also drew the lines for the amborghini Countach and Diablo, the DeTomaso Pantera and the first Volkswagen Polo.
