A little pen can reveal fraud with cars in Denmark

It is not illegal to repaint a car in Denmark. But repainting can still hide something very illegal. Now a little gizmo is causing excitement in the automotive industry.

It is not illegal to repaint cars in Denmark. But a repaint can quickly hide something very criminal. Namely the cloning of cars.

At the claims industry organization SKAD, however, a small paint thickness gauge arouses enthusiasm. As the name suggests, it can be used to measure the paint thickness of a car.

That's what Motor magazine writes.

And thus also whether a complete or partial repainting has taken place. Giving a car a new color is not illegal, but the wrong types can try to hide a cloned car with a repaint.

And therefore a paint thickness gauge makes good sense, SKAD believes. The meter has a very high accuracy with just a few seconds of use. And it's cheap.

The small pen works with the help of a magnet and a scale. When the magnet releases the varnish, you can use the scale on the pen to find out the thickness of the varnish.

Boosted has previously focused on precisely cloned cars. And the varnish is far from the only thing that the criminals try to hide their fraud with. In 2021, Niels Becker, host of the Danish YouTube channel 'High on Cars', estimated that up to 50,000 cars in Denmark may be cloned.

Several visionaries have also received sentences for either participating in or dedicatedly being behind the cloning of cars in Denmark. Most recently, a trial against a psychic began in January. Read more about it here .
