Now Disneyland is also dropping the petrol car

Since the opening of the original Disneyland in 1955, guests have been able to drive around in small gasoline-powered cars. It must be over, say the people behind it now.

The little Autopia cars in Disneyland have been inextricably linked to the amusement park since its opening in 1955.

But it must end now. At least when it comes to the small petrol-powered cars. Because the cars, which for many Americans in particular have been the first experience behind a steering wheel, must be replaced.

The LA Times writes that.

– As the industry moves towards alternative fuels, we have developed a core plan to electrify Autopia and evaluate the technology.

– This will enable us to take steps away from the petrol engine in the course of the coming years, says Jessica Good, spokesperson for Disneyland.

The spokesperson is not saying much about what Disneyland plans to do or when. A shift 'away from the petrol car' could also mean small hybrid cars. Most likely, Disney is talking about small electric cars.

The very special thing about Autopia is that the ride has given people without a driving license (read: the smallest sizes, ed.) access to get behind the wheel. Also many years before they even have to do that kind of thing. That is, in the real world.

Each year, more than 16 million guests visit the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California. So a lot of kilometers will be short in the small Autopia cars.

Right now the cars are sponsored by Honda. This means, among other things, that the cars are painted in real Honda colours, because they move out into that part of the park.
