Entire city flooded by 14,000 abandoned cars

In the American city of Oakland, the streets are now so overflowing with cars that the owners have simply left the city government to intervene.

In the American city of Oakland, which is located in the state of California, there is a distinctive but extremely annoying problem on the roads.

It floats with cars that the owners, for various reasons, have simply left behind, never to return to them again.

According to Oakland authorities, a total of 13,856 cars were registered as abandoned. And that in just six months in 2023.

Local media ABC7 Bay Area writes that.

Right now, the problem with the abandoned cars is so great that the city government in Oakland has lobbied for storage space.

In addition, the police refuse to respond to reports of stolen or abandoned cars, unless these are blocking access to intersections.

Instead, reviewers are told to call 3-1-1, which is the number for a service line in the United States — and Canada, for that matter — that handles all but emergencies.

The latest development in the matter is that the city government has seen the need to set aside funds to hire more roadside assistance companies and to obtain extra space for storing the abandoned cars.

However, it does not solve all the problems. Especially not for drivers who have had their cars stolen. Many of these cars are also registered as abandoned.

To ABC7 Bay Area, a woman from St. Louis in the state of Missouri, that her car – a Pontiac G6 – was found in Oakland. The authorities just didn't tell her.

It happens from time to time that cars are abandoned. Sometimes it even goes beyond entire car dealerships.

Among other things, a Fiat dealer on the Kolding edge left several brand new cars when he changed lanes and sold trucks instead. For many years, the place where the cars stood was a favorite tourist destination. Especially for Germans. Read more about it here .

A little further away – specifically in Germany – everything is as the employees of a Kia dealer left it in December 2019.

There are still new cars in the exhibition. And at the workshop, customer cars are still hanging on the lifts. However, the place is marked by many visits from uninvited guests. Read more about it here .
