Renault group chief executive Luca de Meo believes that the European car industry is bound by regulations, while the industries in China and the US are getting government help.
In connection with the elections to the European Parliament this summer, the Renault group's chief executive, Luca de Meo, has sent an open letter to the politicians.
In it, de Meo attempts to map out the challenges that he believes the European car industry is facing these days.
Among other things, they fear that Meo, who is also chairman of an association of European car manufacturers called ACEA, is already behind when it comes to competition from China and the US in particular.

In those countries, de Meo believes, the governments are more willing than the European countries to support the development of the car industry.
The Renault boss points to, among other things on the fact that the United States has given tax advantages to car brands that build electric cars in the country, while European car manufacturers are subject to more and increasingly strict environmental requirements.
But that's not all. Because in his letter to politicians, de Meo also asks them to support more technologies. They must not stare blindly at corded electric cars.
It is necessary to support the development of synthetic petrol and hydrogen cars, which de Meo believes can become an important part of future transport needs.
The Renault boss also makes it clear that he believes that the EU has regulated the small and cheaper cars to death, with increasingly stricter and more requirements, including for safety.

Finally, Luca de Meo makes it clear that the EU needs to change the rules, so that it becomes easier for the European car manufacturers to work together and thus do better against the competitors.
Despite the current rules, which Renault believes are too strict, the brand has managed to get a collaboration on new combustion engines up and running.
