There is no future in these cars, says Audi's director

There is no doubt that the future consists only of electric cars, said Audi CEO Gernot Döllner when the brand recently presented its annual accounts.

Audi has probably backed off a little from the plans for electric cars. The transition to electric cars no longer has the same speed as the Germans thought just a few years ago.

But according to the brand's managing director Gernot Döllner, that does not change the fact that the future belongs to electric cars.

He said this recently at Audi's annual media conference, where the brand presented its annual accounts for 2023.

This is what the Danish Audi importer writes in a press release .

Back in Germany, the director doesn't really give much to the debate about the survival of the internal combustion engine.

– Despite the recent public debate, there is no doubt that the cars of the future will be electric. At Audi, we want to electrify all core segments by 2027, said Gernot Döllner.

The director also maintains that Audi will only launch new electric cars from 2026. However, the VAG brand is not quite ready to put the internal combustion engine in the grave.

According to the Danish importer, it is 'a gradual winding down towards 2033'. This means that Audi will keep existing internal combustion engines alive until then.

On the other hand, says the brand from Ingolstadt, there must be a complete end to fossil cars two years before the EU demands it.

However, the fact that it is only electric cars that Audi finds interesting these days is not the only new thing from the car brand with the four rings.

After seven years of complaints from customers and a collective motoring press, Audi bows down and drops the confusing naming of the model range. Read more about it here .
