Thomas has no car but the police refuse to cancel speeding tickets

He has no car, nor has he been on the road where the police flashed. Even so, law enforcement will not cancel the speeding ticket 63-year-old Thomas Wiegold has received.

Confusions happen. In such cases, you just have to admit the mistake and move on. But the German police don't want that.

Both law enforcement and the courts believe that a speeding fine of 20 euros, which the Berliner Thomas Wiegold has received, must be paid.

Even if the 63-year-old man has no car at all. And therefore could not be on the road in Kaltenkirchen where the police believe they flashed him back in May last year.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung writes that.

The police have confused Thomas Wiegold with the somewhat younger managing director named Julian Wiegold. The latter even comes from Kaltenkirchen, where he has been blitzed.

But the confusion has come to a head in the legal system. Now the police allege that both Wiegold men live at the same address.

It is, however, straight logn, believes Thomas Wiegold. But a judge isn't much help. Instead, the legal system now criticizes that the police lack proof that the two Wiegold men share an address.

The fine of 20 euros, which corresponds to 150 kroner, must therefore still be paid. The 63-year-old defense lawyer Thomas Wiegold has criticized the police for primarily using Google to find speeding offenders.

This can, says the lawyer, lead to mistakes and confusion. Exactly as has happened in this case. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the case against the wrong 'driver' has not yet been dropped.
