New investigation: Electric cars are the target of a completely new threat

In a new study, a German institute warns against hackers' ever-increasing interest in attacks targeting electric cars.

They become and are in fact already part of the infrastructure. Therefore, the electric cars are also interesting targets for criminals.

And that, concludes a new German survey, which the Center of Automotive Management is behind, is actually increasing.

This is written by Autobild .

It is especially the infrastructure – i.e. the charging stations – that is at risk. The public charging stations are even classified as particularly vulnerable.

The network of charging stations, which in Europe is made by several companies, creates not just one, but several points that hackers can use to attack from.

But the Center of Automotive Management also sees vulnerabilities in the automotive industry's supply chain when it comes to electric cars. And the threat from hackers will only grow in step with an industry that is becoming more and more digitized.

According to Stefan Bratzel, who is the main man behind the new investigation, it is also a problem that many sub-suppliers and services associated with electric cars still have too few and insufficient safety measures.

Pressure from several sides to get electric cars onto the roads more quickly also means that the safety aspect is sometimes downgraded, Stefan Bratzel points out.

However, this does not mean that the threat is completely ignored. In Canada, several are now warning that politicians may have gone too far to combat this kind of hacker attack.

The authorities are concerned about an increasing number of car thefts throughout the country. But this does not mean that a ban on certain technologies is the right way to go, says the criticism. Read more about it here .
