Special camera trap yielded stalls for 745,000 in 11 days

In a small local community east of the German city of Munich, a special speed camera shovels in money because drivers press the accelerator.

In the small German town of Kirchseeon, which is near Munich, it recently cost 100,000 euros to purchase and set up a special camera trap.

But already after 11 days, that investment has paid for itself back home through speed bumps. The amount corresponds to DKK 750,000, and they have gone into the state coffers because the line was too fast 3,112 times.

The speed camera was set up on 20 December 2023, and by the end of the year it had paid for itself again by enforcing a speed limit of 50 km/h.

Every time a motorist honks too fast, it triggers a fine of at least 30 euros. The fact that the toll fee starts there is due to the location of the speed camera. It is right in the middle of the city.

– The numbers are extreme. I expected them to be high, but not so high, says Kirchseeon's mayor, Jan Paeplow, to the German media Bild.

The speed camera is the same type that is used elsewhere in Germany to flash trucks only. And that creates a lot of confusion among motorists on German roads, including some Danes. Read more about it here .

However, it is not everywhere in the world that motorists will put up with being flashed. In Italy, an anonymous group of so-called 'Fleximen' has emerged, after the Italian word for angle grinders.

And as you've probably already guessed, the anonymous people are running around with angle grinders. Something that has literally already set off quite a few camera traps. Read more about it here .

At home, one or more hitherto unknown perpetrators recently chose to put one of the fixed speed traps out of action.

According to the police, it is vandalism. And it is far from the first time that this sort of thing goes beyond the so-called starling boxes. Read more about that case here .
