DEBATE: Christian wants to give cars veteran status already after 25 years

As it is today, your car must be 35 years old to be able to get away with 1/4 of the weight tax with veteran status. A citizens' proposal would have changed that to 25 years.

Vintage cars cover only a few kilometers a year. Furthermore, it is a requirement from the authorities that vintage cars may only be used 'occasionally'. For example, for a Sunday trip in the summer. In Denmark, a car can be classified as a veteran after 30 years. However, the owners have to wait 5 more years, because the tax drops to 1/4. And it is not enough for Christian Friis Jespersen, who with a new citizens' proposal will follow the model the Norwegians are clamoring for. Well, almost. Namely no registration fee and very small periodic fees, already when the cars are 25 years old. Already in the summer of 2019, however, the Norwegians exempted all cars over 20 years from registration tax. Overnight, so to speak – It cannot be right that we have to wait 10 more years for it to become a veteran and to have our weight tax reduced compared to other countries. A car has proven to that extent that it deserves to become a veteran at the 25-year milestone, writes Christian Friis Jespersen in the text of the citizens' proposal. A proposal that has currently received 2,877 supportive signatures. However, 50,000 more are needed by 14 August 2023 if it is to end up in the parliament hall.
