New investigation: The 'greenest' car does not run on electricity

You might think that a hybrid car cannot beat the pure electric cars. But the Toyota Prius can actually do well, states a new study.

Every year, the so-called GreenerCars survey is carried out among passenger cars in the USA. And this year it is actually quite interesting reading.

At least if you go around thinking that electric cars put all cars with internal combustion engines to the wall. Because that, if you ask the Americans, is not the case.

Preserved, electric cars fill the list according to which GreenerCars has ranked the American fleet of passenger cars. But at the top we find a Toyota.

And not the Japanese's scandal-ridden and maligned first bid for an electric car, the bZ4x. But first a little about how GreenerCars comes up with a 'green car'.

They look at both the annual fuel costs, how efficiently the car 'glides' through the air, i.e. the aerodynamics, and a number of other factors.

And here the plug-in hybrid version of the current Prius performs absolutely best with a total score of 71 out of 100.

The greenest electric car – a Lexus RZ – has to manage with a score of 67. This is followed by three electric cars, because there is actually a plug-in hybrid from Toyota on the menu. Namely RAV4.

For the record, GreenerCars has also looked at the 'blackest' cars that can be bought new on the market today. Here there are 12 cars to choose from. The Mercedes-Benz Maybach S680 forms the bottom line with a score of 30 out of 100.

Among other things, because the annual costs for fuel run up to 30,000 dollars, corresponding to more than 200,000 kroner with a driving requirement of 15,000 miles/24,100 kilometers.

Conversely, fuel consumption is probably not among S-Class owners' biggest concerns. At home, a Mercedes of that caliber costs from just under 2.7 million kroner.
