Another car brand postpones the electric car – the interest is not there

On Wednesday this week, Aston Martin made it clear that the brand is postponing its first bid for a mass-produced electric car. The interested customers are simply not there.

Aston Martin is now singing in the same direction as Ford, Toyota and General Motors, who are all betting on hybrids rather than electric cars. At least in the short term.

On Wednesday, the British brand laid the cards on the table and said that the interest in an electric car is simply not there at the moment.

The car brand said this in connection with the publication of Aston Martin Lagonda's annual accounts for 2023.

That's what Automotive News Europe writes.

– Motorists' demand, especially when you consider Aston Martin's price level, is not where we thought it would be two years ago, admitted board chairman Lawrence Stroll.

It is not the first time that Aston Martin has changed its mind when it comes to electric cars. In 2020, it was assumed that 20 percent of the model program would have been electrified in 2024.

Primarily with help from Mercedes. But now the Germans have also pulled the handbrake when it comes to electric cars.

Back at Aston, they have actually experimented with electric cars too. In 2019, the English plucked the V12 engine from the then four-door Rapide and called it the Rapide-E. However, the car was never put into production.
