Distressed car brand postpones plan for electric cars by several years

Audi has fired the boss because things did not go well enough in China. But the Chinese still buy the A8 model with a combustion engine. Therefore, a replacement for electricity is now being postponed for several years.

Audi will extend the life of the top model A8 for several more years. This is simply because the demand for electric cars has fallen.

This is written by the German Auto Motor und Sport .

At the same time, motorists in China, a market of decisive importance for Audi, still buy the A8 model with a combustion engine.

And that even though Audi actually fired its former managing director Markus Duesmann because things were too slow with the electric cars and too bad in China.

According to the German media, Audi already said three years ago that the A8's last year of production would be 2024.

But the successor, which later took shape as the Grandsphere concept at the same time, has already been postponed to 2027. And even with that deadline, Auto Motor und Sport doubts that production will start by then.

On the other hand, Audi is still doing well in sales of the A8 with a combustion engine. This is mainly due to the uber-luxury version Horch, which only the Chinese can come close to. Read more about the car here .

Therefore, Audi has plans for another facelift of the current A8, which came on the market in 2017. And this even though the brand's factory in the German city of Neckarsulm does not even build half as many cars as it currently has capacity for.

It also doesn't help that, according to Auto Motor und Sport, the factory also builds the less exclusive models such as the A7, A6, A5 Cabriolet and A4.
