Used cars are more expensive to repair than ever

Used cars have fewer defects than before. Conversely, those errors are more expensive to correct than before. This is shown by a new survey from the interest organization FDM.

It is important to look carefully when you as a motorist are looking for a used car these days.

This is written by the motorists' interest organization FDM .

From here, the advice is that motorists should not be fooled by nice paintwork, a good engine sound and a low mileage. After all, expensive mistakes can be hidden in the car.

This is what FDM concludes after going through 2,026 used tests on five selected car models. And for the economy, it is scary reading.

On average, each car for at least DKK 4,560 or 1.7 faults on average. The most expensive was the Mercedes C-Class with DKK 6,486 in repairs, i.e. per error. While the Volkswagen Golf got through the cheapest with DKK 2,409 per error.

At FDM, the area manager for technical advice, Lene Otto, also warns motorists against falling for the word 'new vision'.

The fact that a used car has been refurbished only says something that it meets the absolute minimum requirements when it comes to the environment and safety.

When there are no electric cars on FDM's failure list, it is because, says the interest organization, that they have not tested enough of this type of car as used cars.

FDM tested the following 5 car models for faults:
Peugeot 208 year 2012-2019
Volkswagen Golf year 2013-2017
Nissan Qashqai year 2014-2020
Volkswagen Passat year 2011-2015
Mercedes C-Class year 2007-2014
