Toyota risks punishment for diesel cheating in several cars

The Japanese government is considering whether to withdraw the approval of a number of Toyota diesel engines.

Toyota is not getting rid of dieselgate. Not even if it was Volkswagens that initially got the scandal rolling almost 10 years ago.

Right now, the Japanese Ministry of Justice is considering whether the permission Toyota has been given to build the engines should be withdrawn.

This is written by the business media Asia Nikkei .

Back in January, Toyota Industries admitted that it had falsified the information on a number of diesel engines that have since found their way into both passenger cars and forklift trucks.

The Japanese authorities have since come to the conclusion that Toyota has grossly defrauded in this way. This means that the government is ready to take action to prevent similar fraud in the future.

How Toyota will possibly be punished is still unclear. It also seems that the Ministry of Justice is initially focusing on the manipulated forklifts.

But the charges are that Toyota may have defrauded a large number of passenger cars and vans. Including older generations of Land Cruiser.

Toyota itself believes that the brand has sold around 84,000 of the problematic forklifts since 2020. The fraud has already had consequences for the car brand. Read more about it here .
