Toyota is testing fossil cars that pull co2 out of the air

The technique is complicated, but the explanation is simple. With a new filter, Toyota is testing a solution that lets fossil-fueled cars pull co2 out of the air.

Toyota has said it many times before. The Japanese do not believe that the electric car is the only solution. Conversely, the Japanese also do not leave the internal combustion engine as it is.

Toyota has, among other things, told that they are testing cars that burn hydrogen. And now the Japanese are also testing a new type of filter.

The Toyota Times writes that.

Toyota is developing filters that can be mounted in the front of the cars and thus extract CO2 from the atmosphere. And such a filter type actually already exists.

Toyota is even playing around with it on concept versions of the GR Corolla that burn hydrogen. And something positive has already come out of that, the Japanese believe.

According to Toyota, initial tests indicate that the new filter technology can bring the cars' CO2 emissions into the red rather than just being CO2 neutral.

The filters do not require anything extra from the cars either. Toyota even says that the heat from the internal combustion engine, which would otherwise be wasted, is now used to convert the CO2 into a liquid form that is disposed of.

This means that the filters will also have a positive effect on ordinary combustion engines. And not just the experimental cars that are currently burning hydrogen on an experimental basis.

Right now, however, the ability of the filters is very modest. In the course of a trip of 91 kilometres, only 20 grams of CO2 were captured. But a little is better than nothing, right?
