Recalling 80,000 cars with serious defects

The BMW group has to embark on a major recall that also affects Rolls-Royce. It is crazy with the brakes, say the authorities in the USA.

BMW has to go into a larger recall of 79,670 cars. A further ten cars are from Rolls-Royce, which has belonged to the Germans since 1998.

However, it has not been without problems. And now BMW is taking the consequence that several safety systems, such as the ABS brakes and the stability program, can go for a walk in several models.

BMW itself says that the brand has already found the error and a solution to it. But the ABS brakes can still 'go' because of the fault.

A bug that can be on several 5, 7 as well as X1, X5, X6, X7 and XM models. In addition, the brake fault can be hidden in up to ten Rolls-Royce Specter models, it says.

BMW emphasizes that the brakes themselves still work and can stop the cars. But the ABS system and/or electronic stability program can cause problems.

It is certainly not the first time that BMW has recalled cars. In recent years alone, the German brand from Munich has recalled cars in the millions. Including several thousand cars in Denmark.

In 2018, it was crazy with 6,500 Danish-registered diesel cars, which were in danger of catching fire. The cars could simply self-ignite. And last year it was crazy with another 10,000 Danish cars.

Subsequently, BMW received heavy criticism – also in the Danish media – for not doing enough to correct a fault in the diesel cars' EGR system.

And in South Korea, they definitely had enough of the BMW importer, who was sentenced to a gigantic fine for hiding the cause of fires in more than 50 cars. Read more about it here .
