Car brands "knew" that interest in electric cars would decline

Unlike the competition, a number of Japanese car brands are in no hurry to hit the brakes when it comes to electric cars. Because they knew it would happen.

A number of Japanese car brands now claim they could see into the future. That is, right up to where the car industry is now.

Namely a situation where interest in electric cars has fallen significantly. So significantly, in fact, that a number of car brands are now regretting their plans for electric cars.

For example, Mercedes' chief executive now said that it will take many years before the electric car can compete with the fossil car.

However, this slowdown does not come at the back of a number of Japanese car brands. In any case, it now sounds from both Subaru, Nissan, Honda and Mazda that they are not surprised by the development.

– It is the customer who determines the speed of electrification. It is not a market that grows linearly. Not in a straight line.

– It will go up and down. But in the long run, the market will grow, says Stephan Ma, Nissan's financial director.

Ma's director colleague at Honda shares the same opinion. And the same says Subaru's deputy director, Tomoaki Emori.

Bloomberg writes that.

Toyota does not want to slow down its plans for electric cars either. Because the electric cars are coming. But, like its Japanese competitors, Toyota believes that it is the drivers and not the rules that should determine what is right on the roads.
