Recalling 200,000 self-destructing cars

It's a software issue that prevents heat from reaching covered front and rear windows on a number of Jeep models. The brand is now taking the consequences.

Almost 200,000 cars with the Jeep logo are currently making life miserable for their owners. The software that controls the heat in the front and rear windows simply turns off the function.

Jeep has determined that the problematic software is found in cars built for the 2021 to 2024 model years. More precisely, it is the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models.

This is according to the US traffic safety authorities .

Jeep has come so far in investigating the problem that it has been found that the last car with the problematic software left the assembly line on December 5 of last year.

The Stellantis group, of which Jeep is a part, says that they first became aware of the error back in June 2023. And since then they have investigated it more closely.

The affected owners apparently cannot fix the problem themselves. So from April 5, Jeep will start recalling the cars to the workshop.

It's the second problem requiring a recall Jeep has had to contend with in the past four months.

Last, the brand asked 32,000 owners of the Wrangler 4xe electric car not to charge their cars, as Jeep had found a possible fire risk in the cars.

There are generally enough recalls at the moment. Almost at the same time as Jeep, another brand announces that 250,000 cars need a trip to the workshop.

There is a risk of fire in the affected cars, and it will take between 2.5 and 5 hours to replace the possibly defective parts. Read more about it here .
