Losing DKK 234,000 on each car: Now Rivian is coming to Europe

As recently as last year, Rivian refused to sell cars in Europe after prolonged speculation and rumors to the contrary. But now the Americans have changed their minds.

There is already a Rivian in Denmark. It was registered as a van back in January 2022. But now it may be joined by its siblings.

In any case, Auto Express writes that the American brand is finally planning to make something serious out of a life on European roads.

However, not for the Rivian R1T, which is a pickup. Instead, the brand is betting that the model range, with an upcoming expansion in March, will speak to European motorists.

Specifically, Rivian will send the upcoming R2, which is a smaller SUV, towards Europe. When Rivian says smaller, the brand means 'smaller than their current SUV called the R1S'.

Last year, Rivian sold a total of 47,200 cars. And as Boosted has previously been able to tell, it is at the expense of gigantic losses.

In fact, the American brand loses a staggering DKK 234,000 every time the brand delivers a car to a new customer. Or an existing one, for that matter. Read more about it here .

A spokesperson confirms to Auto Express that the R2, which is just the brand's third model, will find its way to Europe. And that this also means right-hand drive English cars. But whether Denmark is part of the plans is unknown.

Rivian lifts the veil for R2 on March 7 this year. According to Auto Express, the car should be 'cheaper' than both of the brand's current models.

But how much cheaper we will probably only get an answer to when the car is no longer hidden away from prying eyes after the presentation.
