Thousands of new cars seized – contain illegal parts

It is a concern that slave labor has produced illegal parts in western China that is now prompting US authorities to seize new cars by the thousands.

The American part of the VAG group is currently faced with thousands of customers who are in need of brand new cars.

These include everything from Audi to Bentley and Porsche customers that have been seized when they arrived at US ports.

The Financial Times writes that.

The cars have been seized by the authorities because they contain parts that violate US laws against forced labor.

The VAG group itself claims to be unaware of the problematic parts, as they come from an indirect sub-supplier. Apparently buried deep in a chain of suppliers.

Conversely, it is also the VAG group's North American division that told the authorities about the problem after the subcontractor had given notice.

– Now we must clarify the facts and take the necessary steps. It may also mean that suppliers will be terminated if our investigation confirms serious breaches of the rules, says the VAG group in a statement.
