Is Hyundai on its way with Denmark's cheapest electric car?

According to several sources, Hyundai will introduce a low-cost mini electric car in Europe. The name is Casper.

Speculation about Hyundai's plans to launch a small and very affordable electric car has been circulating for the past year, and now more details are starting to emerge.

Hyundai's little Casper is a familiar sight on the roads in Asia as a petrol model, and now it appears to be heading to Europe with an electric motor, potentially starting a wild race for access to budget-friendly electric cars.

Test runs of the small electric car have been spotted in northern Scandinavia in preparation for the launch later this year. While the price of several media is indicated at around DKK 150,000, it should be noted that the Danish VAT will bring the price up to around DKK 160,000.

"We expect that it will arrive in Denmark, but we do not yet have an exact date or price. However, we look forward to being able to present it," says Annegrethe Skovby, press manager at Hyundai, to Jyllands-Posten .

Casper will join a number of small and mini electric cars that are either already sold in the region or are planned for launch in Europe. These include the Chinese-made Dacia Spring and Renault Twingo.

The car's design has certain similarities with the popular Suzuki Ignis. The length is just under 3.6 meters, but several media suggest that the car will grow slightly in the European version.
