FDM issues serious criticism of new speed control in Denmark

For the first time ever in Denmark, a private company is set to catch speeders. But that should not be possible at all, FDM believes.

If you get a speed ticket on the Storebæltsbroen, it is not the police who have measured your speed, but rather a private company.

Sund & Bælt is responsible for the operation of the Great Belt Bridge, which also has the task of recording the speed on the bridge with speed control.

And that is wrong. At least if you ask FDM. This is written by DR .

The speed control on the Storebæltsbroen is a so-called section control that measures motorists' average speed over three zones. And it is actually the first time this has happened in Denmark.

It's just not something that a private company should take care of, according to the motorists' interest organization.

– In Denmark and most other legal states, it is the police who do speed control. It is not private companies that do speed control.

– And it is actually the latter that is the case here, and we believe that is not the right way to do it, says FDM.

FDM states that motorists have no guarantee that the measurements are correct. Nor can motorists know that things are going as they should, when a private company does it for law enforcement.

In fact, FDM is in doubt as to whether there is a legally legal basis for issuing speed bumps on the Storebæltsbroen, when it is now not the police and thus the public sector that is responsible for the task.

On the other hand, there is not much to discuss in Denmark's most talked about case of insane asylum. And now the driver admits that he cannot afford to buy the car back. Read more about it here .
