Municipalities must ban all diesel and petrol cars in Denmark

A new agreement between the government and a number of other parties in Christiansborg means that all municipalities in Denmark must introduce zero-emission zones.

In the future, it may be prohibited for fossil-fuel cars to drive in certain parts of Danish cities. A new agreement concluded between the government and SF, Enhedslisten, Radikale Venstre and Alternativet gives the municipalities the opportunity to introduce zero-emission zones.

This is what the Ministry of the Environment writes in a press release .

In Aarhus and Copenhagen, the mayors are already looking forward to establishing zero-emission zones. It is said that this should benefit the air quality and the green transition.

– Air pollution is a problem and petrol and diesel emissions from traffic are among the biggest culprits. The problem is greatest in the cities and therefore the municipalities must have the opportunity to intervene so that we can ensure cleaner air locally," says Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke (S).

De Danske Bilimportorer is pleased that all municipalities now have the opportunity to establish zero-emission zones. This will force more Danes to switch to electric cars.

– It is essential that the municipalities are given the opportunity to decide on zero-emission zones now, so that they can come into force in 2030.

– This gives car owners the opportunity to plan their switch to an electric car, so that the transition becomes more manageable. More people will switch to the electric car before 2030, which is why the green effects will be visible earlier, says the organisation's managing director Mads Rorvig.

In the past, Mads Rorvig has strongly reached out to Danish drivers who do not yet drive around in electric cars. Read more about how it is connected here .
