"Mr. Bean" gets blamed for electric cars not selling fast enough

Rowan Atkinson's opinions on and attitude to electric cars are harmful, a think tank believes. At least when it comes to the sale of electric cars.

The British think tank Green Alliance is worried about Rowan Atkinson. Perhaps not so much for the famous comedian as a person, but more for his attitudes.

Attitudes which the think tank criticized in a fashion in the House of Lords of the British Parliament this week.

Specifically, it is Atkinson's opinion about electric cars that the think tank is not satisfied with. In fact, the think tank calls the comedian's opinion directly harmful to the sale of electric cars in England.

The criticism of Rowan Atkinson comes after he expressed his opinion on electric cars in a column in the British newspaper The Guardian in June 2023.

The comedian's opinion is also called harmful to the British government's goal of phasing out petrol and diesel cars by 2035.

A column that Boosted was also criticized for quoting from the Danish site TjekDet. You can read what the site thinks Boosted is doing wrong here .

CheckIt also reportedly tried to get a comment from Atkinson himself. But it didn't work, they write.

Back in England, the think tank writes in a letter to parliament that Atkinson's opinion in The Guardian was one of the most damaging to the sale of electric cars in the country, and that the comedian's opinion has since been 'debunked' – i.e. denied.

Among other things. writes Atkinson that "greenhouse gases from the production of electric cars are 70 percent higher than for a gasoline car."

– Unfortunately, a fact check never reaches the same target audience as the original false claim, which underlines the need to ensure high editorial standards when it comes to the transition to zero-emission cars, says the Green Alliance.
