First dropped Tesla – now Polestar has also been put on hold

The rental company Hertz has been plagued by high costs for repairs on electric cars, which are also associated with heavy losses in value.

Car rental giant Hertz has put plans to buy several thousand Polestar models on hold. The reason must be found in the company's bad experiences with electric cars in particular.

Back in January, it emerged that Hertz believes that the costs for repairing electric cars are too high. Cars that also lose far too much in value when they are resold.

This was the reason why the company announced that it will get rid of 20,000 electric cars. Here among a number of Teslas.

The Financial Times writes that.

The competitor Sixt had previously announced that they want to get rid of all Teslas in the fleet. And now Hertz is pulling the brakes a little more.

In 2022, the rental company also said that it had plans to buy 65,000 Polestars over a period of 5 years. A deal worth $5 billion.

Hertz has not yet confirmed that this is how they relate to Polestar. But the car brand's managing director Thomas Ingenlath tells the Financial Times that Hertz has approached.

According to the Polestar boss, the parties have reached an agreement to put the supply of electric cars on hold. In return, Hertz has promised not to immediately get rid of the Polestar models the company already has.

Thomas Ingenlath tells the newspaper that Polestar has promised to keep the cars for at least a year. And that Polestar can subsequently be allowed to buy the cars back.
