Car brand denies they want to buy Renault

Last week, an Italian newspaper wrote that Stellantis is on its way to a merger with Renault. But that has nothing to do with it, says the boss.

Stellantis' chairman of the board John Elkan now denies that a merger with Renault is on the way. Last time, newspaper Il Messaggero wrote that that plan was under way.

But now Elkan rejects that talk in an interview with Reuters .

– We are not considering merging the business with other car brands, says the chairman of the board.

However, the rumor is not entirely new. In fact, it arose quite shortly after Renault pulled out of Russia in March 2022 due to the country's assault on Ukraine.

Russia was – after France – the largest market at all for Renault. This is mainly due to the Russians' demand for the cheap brand Dacia, which Renualt took over in 1999.

At home, both the Renualt and Stellantis brands have seen better days. The former fired all its Danish dealers last year.

And the best-selling Stellantis brand in Denmark, Peugeot, is only the 7th best-selling brand in Denmark. Figures from the car importers show this.
