Is banned in Denmark – now this kind of car can make a comeback

The business model behind the ride-hailing service Uber was banned by a law change in 2017. Now there may be a release on the way.

Not since 2017 has there been an Uber car around Denmark. The service's business method is simply illegal.

But now the mood may have turned in Uber's favor. In any case, Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen (V) believes that the traffic service can resolve many challenges. Especially in the countryside where public transport is scarce.

That's what Politiken writes.

The government has now set up an expert committee to look at different solutions. Including Uber. But whether it is the final unloading, the minister will not comment on.

– Uber can certainly solve many mobility challenges. But I don't fixate on any models, he tells the newspaper.

At Christiansborg, there are divided opinions about the proposal. The Liberal Alliance wants to have the legislation reopened for Uber and other similar services as soon as possible. While SF does not want to hear talk of car traffic replacing trains and buses.

As early as 2021, a citizens' proposal tried to get politicians to lift the ban on ride-hailing services like Uber. However, the proposal never received more than 102 supports. 50,000 more are needed to reach the parliament hall.
