The battery in every fourth Danish car is too bad

New figures from the company Carly show that every fourth Danish car is driving around with a battery that is in poor or even very poor condition.

New figures from Carly show that the condition of the battery in every fourth car in Denmark is poor or in very poor condition.

The study, which focuses on car batteries, shows significant differences between car brands and points to climate challenges.

Carly has collected data globally from over 60 million cars via the company's diagnostic tool, which consists of an OBD scanner and an associated app.

The specific results for Denmark are based on data collected in 2024 through the company's "Battery Health Check" feature.

The analysis shows that around 75 percent of the examined car batteries in Denmark are in good condition. The remaining 25 percent are assessed to be in the risk zone, which means a poor or very poor condition for the battery in question.

The results indicate that there are differences in how batteries perform in different car brands on the Danish market.

According to Carly's data, the brands Kia, Nissan and Renault have the largest share of batteries in poor condition in Denmark.

Conversely, the largest proportion of batteries in good condition is seen with the brands Citroën, Mazda and Toyota.

The climate in Denmark and the other Nordic countries plays a role in the lifespan of car batteries. A relatively high electricity consumption in many cars combined with a cool climate causes increased wear on the car battery.

According to Carly, the fact that 25 percent of batteries are in poor condition may indicate that some car owners are not monitoring the condition of their batteries. The company points out the importance of replacing a weak battery in time.

Carly representative Dali Ati says that car owners can monitor a battery's status in real time via the company's app.

This allows you to react before a problem develops. Features in the app allow you to check the battery's condition, including discharge patterns, voltage levels and charging behavior, without the need for a workshop visit.

Data collection for the analysis was done via Carly's "Battery Health Check" function and covers Danish users in the period January to December 2024. The analysis includes data on discharge patterns, voltage levels and charging behavior for the individual battery.
