Tesla stops sales of Model S and Model X

According to Car Advisor, Tesla has told its Japanese customers that ordering factory-new versions of the Model S and Model X is over.

It's still possible to buy a brand new Tesla Model S and Model X in Japan. But only for a few more days. The brand will close its order books on March 31st of this year.

At least in Japan, writes Car Advisor .

Shop4Tesla brings the same news, and here they go a little more in-depth into why sales are stopping in Japan.

The people behind the site believe that Tesla is preparing for a major facelift of both the Model S and Model X, which are also, quite appropriately, the oldest models in the American brand's program.

Despite minor upgrades, the Model S hasn't changed fundamentally since it put Tesla on the world map back in 2012. Yet Tesla insists that the car should be expensive.

In Denmark, where it is still possible to order a car, a Model S, for example, costs from 1,090,000 kroner. The top model Plaid is 100,000 kroner more expensive.

Tesla's vice president of engineering, Lars Moravy, has also confirmed that updated Model S and Model X are on the way. However, he will not say how much Tesla intends to change the cars.

But something drastic is likely to happen. Over the course of 2024, the brand built just 94,000 cars that, as Tesla says, are 'neither Model 3 nor Model Y.' That leaves only the Model S and X.

Shop4Tesla expects that sales will only be temporarily halted. They will be able to resume when Tesla has updated, right-hand drive cars ready again.

The picture is the same in England, where the Tesla Model S is only a stock model. The English even have to make do with left-hand drive cars.

Here in Denmark, only 19 Model S were registered during the entire year of 2024. That's only one more than Citroen sold of Berlingos and Ford put on the roads of the Mustang model.
