Mercedes is now using AI robots to build cars

The use of so-called humanoid robots will help Mercedes save time and money on assembly lines in several places around the world.

When you buy a Mercedes in the future, it will most likely be assembled by a robot with artificial intelligence. At least partially.

This is what Autocar writes.

Mercedes has begun using humanoid robots in production, initially at factories in the US and Europe.

Among other things, Mercedes and Google are testing the Apollo robot in the logistics department at the brand's campus in Berlin. The site is located in the immediate vicinity of Mercedes' factory in the city.

Unlike the robots Mercedes already has, Apollo is able to move between several different tasks on the Campus, where the tasks from the factory floor are currently being simulated.

In the long term, the plan is for the Apollo robots to ease logistics for their flesh-and-blood colleagues at Mercedes' factories.

The car brand is not revealing when and how far into the future that target is, but there are indications that it will be expensive.

In any case, Mercedes has confirmed that more than 754 million kroner has been thrown at the company Apptronik, which develops the Apollo robot.

The news about the massive investment in artificial intelligence comes only shortly after Mercedes' management announced that it really needs to save many billions.

In addition to building fewer electric cars, the car brand will lay off people and move parts of production to Eastern Europe to save on wages.
