There's no "Tesla shame" here – sales increase by 20 percent

While Tesla's sales in Denmark collapsed by a whopping 58 percent during February, they rose by 20 percent in England. Sales are also increasing in Ireland.

Neither in England nor Ireland are drivers showing any signs of suffering from 'Tesla shame'. On the contrary, the brand's sales have increased by 20 percent in both countries.

That's what the Vehicle Suggest page says.

However, Tesla is facing problems in several European countries. At the beginning of the year, sales of Tesla models across Europe were halved.

An overview from the beginning of March showed sales plummeting in several places.

Among other things, Tesla in Germany experienced a 76 percent drop in sales in February. In Sweden, Norway and Denmark, sales fell by over 40 percent. In Denmark, a full 58 percent of sales have disappeared.

No one here suffers from Tesla shame – sales increase by 20 percent

Things are even worse in Australia, where the electric car brand's sales have shrunk by a whopping 72 percent. At the same time, the brand's CEO, Elon Musk, promises to ramp up production. In fact, he wants to double it within two years.

In both Ireland and England, however, drivers are bucking the trend. In the first two months of the year, over 30 percent more Teslas have been registered than in the same period the previous year.

The increase is primarily due to the Model 3 with 428 units sold, while the Model Y accounts for the remaining 111. Electric cars now account for almost 16 percent of new car sales in the UK as a whole.

In comparison, just under 13 percent of the Danish car fleet is fully electric. However, the latest figures show that petrol and diesel cars are being pushed into the background. Read more about it here .

Previously reported figures also showed an increase of over 20 percent in Tesla sales in the UK in February 2024. Almost 4,000 cars were sold, primarily Model 3 and Model Y.

It is debatable what is causing Tesla's problems in many European countries. Elon Musk's political statements may have had an impact on sales.

His support for Donald Trump and certain parties in Germany has sparked debate and made some car buyers reconsider their choices.

At the same time, Tesla's share price has fallen by more than 40 percent since December. But the English are certainly not the only ones who ignore the 'Tesla shame'. In Sweden, a car dealer can say that he has never sold so many used Teslas as now.

Even at Blocket itself, which in many ways corresponds to the Danish DBA, it can be seen that Tesla is drawing interest in the platform.

– After all the attention surrounding Tesla, some buyers may be taking the opportunity to get a good deal on a used model, hence the increasing traffic.

– It is possible that the debate surrounding Tesla is influencing buyers. And the fact that our figures show increased traffic is not necessarily proof that the “Tesla scandal” has had no effect, says Marcin Stepman, automotive expert at Blocket.
