Formula 1 driver admits: I am the world's biggest hypocrite

Sebastian Vettel says one thing but does another. The four-time Formula 1 winner knows that makes him the world's biggest hypocrite.

Sebastian Vettel is the world's biggest hypocrite. At least if you ask the four-time German world champion himself.

Because since he put both his helmet and driving gloves on the shelf in 2022, he has talked increasingly about protecting the environment.

Yet he drones around in one lightning-fast combustion-engine racing car after another. And in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, the admission is made promptly.

– I have to accept that accusation. And yes, I am the biggest hypocrite there is when I talk about environmental issues while leaving such a large carbon footprint.

Vettel, who last won a Formula 1 race in 2019, however, does not believe that it is useful to be ashamed of the racing cars.

We are all hypocrites, says the former Formula 1 driver

– Should I feel bad about it? We don't want to solve the problem by being ashamed, but rather by confronting it and looking for solutions.

The now 37-year-old German is not slow to call both high and low in society hypocrites. At least in general terms.

We are all hypocrites because we like things that we know are not so good. Should we fly to Thailand on vacation? Of course not. But it is so incredibly beautiful in Thailand.

Instead of beating each other over the head with moral sermons, Vettel believes that we as humans should come together and find solutions to our lifestyle and consumption in the world of technology.

– We shouldn't ban travel, but find technological solutions that allow us to do the same things as before. Just more sustainably.
