The Saudis themselves say that they want to be the center of the world. At least when it comes to electric car production. Those plans, however, are not going well.
It should have been a world center for electric car production. And that is probably still the plan. But nothing really happens in Saudi Arabia, where the plan was to build up to half a million electric cars every year.
And by 2030 at the latest. but so far, however, only 800 electric cars have been built. Reuters writes that.
Two of the car brands that was supposed to sell a lot are American Lucid and the Saudis’ own ‘Ceer’. For the latter, the iPhone factory Foxconn is included.
But there is still neither a Ceer model nor a factory. The first car will be officially presented next year. But insider sources claim that nothing will happen until 2026 at the earliest.

One of the biggest problems for car production in Saudi Arabia is allegedly that the country lacks a domestic or at least nearby production of wiring harnesses.
High wages, a small market and an absence of local suppliers meant in 2019 that Toyota said no to opening a factory in Saudi Arabia. And now the country’s own plans are also lagging behind enormously.
