They are perhaps the closest we will get to Jakob Haugaard's lofts about tailwinds on the cycle paths. But many Danes still think that electric bikes can go too fast.
There is wind in your hair when you head out into traffic on an electric bike. And maybe too much wind too. In any case, every fourth Dane answers that electric bikes are too fast.
This is revealed by a new investigation that Kantar Public has carried out for Gjensidige. The insurance company states this in a press release .
And that now causes claims director at Gjensidige, Lene Ramussen, to remind cyclists of their responsibility in traffic. Especially because you can ride significantly faster on an electric bike than other cyclists.
– When the speed is significantly higher, you also have a greater responsibility to look after others and yourself. You are still a road user, even if you have an engine on your bike.

– In addition, you must also be aware that your fellow road users may find it more difficult to adjust distances when you suddenly come at a higher speed than what we are used to on a bicycle without electricity, says the director.
And the director's point of view is also supported by the Danes who drive cars. Close to three out of ten answer in the survey that the high speed of electric bicycles makes it more difficult to predict the traffic as a driver.
Figures from the Road Directorate also show that there are more accidents with electric bicycles on the roads. But this is just as much due to the fact that there have been more electric bicycles on the roads.
– We are still not on track to get used to the high speed, and therefore it is also important that both electric and regular cyclists take care to take each other into account and pay attention in traffic, says Lene Rasmussen.
